A 'short to battery' means the circuit is receiving direct battery voltage (B+) when it shouldn't, due to a short in the wiring to a power line, a shorted internal switch, or a failure in the transfer case control module (TCCM). The system may become stuck in one drive mode or fail to respond to driver input.
